Tap Water Day
The mission of the Tap Water Day campaign is to improve public access to water in public places by promoting the placement of community drinking fountains and filing stations in schools, parks, and other public spaces.
In 2024, Metropolitan Water District Agencies partnered with WeTap.org to help us celebrate public drinking water and to highlight the commitments and investments public agencies are making as they work together and improve access to safe, dependable and afforable drinking water.
On May 4, 2023, Senator Portantino is introducing a resolution to establish Tap Water Day in California by the State of California Legislature. Tap Water Day encourages Californians to celebrate, support, trust and value publicly supplied drinking water and use community drinking fountains and filling stations as one of the best and healthiest sources of drinking water, thereby helping to reduce single use plastic waste, alleviate economic disparity, appreciate conserve, and preserve scarce and precious drinking water sources, especially in the face of drought and increased health and protect our environment and the future of California.
